I am working on the following projects:
1) ”To elucidate the mechanism for gradient-dependent inhibition of platelet activation”.
2) ”To investigate the role of coagulation factors in the modulation of platelet activation”.
I am studying effects on platelet activation by adding specific coagulation factor inhibitors and platelet inhibitors utilizing light-transmission aggregometry, intra-cellular calcium measurements and flow cytometry. I will compare the effects of novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) on platelet activation and coagulation by comparing changes in markers (sP-selectin, thrombin-antithrombin complexes, D-dimer) thereof in stored plasma samples collected before and under treatment with NOACs. Besides, I will try to prove and quantify the platelet content of factor X and elucidate in detail how this factor X is activated. Furthermore, I will study the effects of different antithrombotic drugs in an in vitro flow chamber thrombosis model using fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, and image analysis.
